Utterly Beguiling – the Cinque Terre

Italy’s Cinque Terre took my top spot in our power rankings and top three overall. While Spain has a firm grip on my soul, and I fell in love with Budapest, the Cinque Terre managed to claim a piece of me as well. My one and only journal entry, scribbled in brief, while exploring the coastal trails between the five villages:

I don’t know what to say. I am utterly in love. More in love than anywhere, ever. So much, it pains me. The sounds, sights, tastes, feel and smell…I can hardly stand it. This is my happy place – the happiest of happy. I could grow old here. I never want to leave.

Can you really blame me…img_3091 Continue reading

Final Power Rankings

By Mike

Time for some Power Rankings.  Pick your favorite.  OK, this should be easy.  Let’s start with the MVP, Kris Bryant.  But what about the team leader.  Anthony Rizzo.  Then why do I want someone else’s number on my jersey.  Addison Russell.   How about the NLCS MVP?  Javy Baez, Jon Lester.  No, can’t have a tie for the top spot.  World Series MVP Ben Zobrist?  Ah, the heck with this, let’s rank something easier.

Power Rankings

By Chef Dad

At the halfway point of our trip, we decided to compile rankings of our favorite cities, NCAA-style*. We’ve been to 26 different cities, big and small, since we left home in early January and different places have made different marks on each of us.  We also included Paris and Barcelona, the cities we saw on our last visit, just because.  These rankings are subjective, with the criterion for inclusion based purely on the whims of the voters. We fully expect we’ll change the ordering when we do this again in a few months, even for cities we haven’t returned to.  (Full disclosure—we lost the piece of paper we wrote the first set of rankings down on and I know for the second iteration, Miss A changed hers—a lot!)

On to the rankings: Continue reading

Our Andalucian Life

When we set out to plan our sabbatical, we knew Spain would be our first stop. The only questions was, how do we fit it all in? The answer was simple – we couldn’t. Despite having four weeks at our disposal, Spain is a vast country with treasures both simple and great unfolding at every turn.  Continue reading
