Through Their Eyes – And Our Giveaway Winner!

What do you get when you combine kids and cameras, stunning weather and Chicago’s lakefront? Our first “Through Their Eyes” post.

Mr. N is busy rehearsing for his upcoming show, which means weekends are spent driving back and forth to the city. Fortunately, it does give us the opportunity to take advantage of warm, sunny autumn afternoons along Lake Michigan. Although I swear I am seriously contemplating moving back down there if he keeps this acting career rolling!

So today, we packed up for the city, with cameras in hands – their hands – to practice.

Miss A used a Canon Power Shot A1200 with a 5.0 to 20.0mm 1:2.8-5.9 zoom lens. This one has lots of fun features for her to play with and is small enough for her to manage.

Mr. N used my old Canon EOS Digital Rebel, as well as my Canon EOS 7D. He’s ready for something more complicated now.

We spent several hours wandering slowly along the lake. It’s amazing the things you find when you take your time and have eyes observing at all different levels.

So before we announce our winner, here are the images taken (and selected) by Mr. N and Miss A along the shore of Lake Michigan on the North Side of Chicago. These are their stories.

And now for the randomly selected winner of our giveaway, a signed copy of Iron Chef’s Jose Garces new cookbook, “The Latin Road Home”….

Congratulations Amy! We’ll be in touch. Thank you to everyone that entered the contest and pushed it on social media. We’ll have a few more giveaways for you all next month!

Tonight, we’ll leave you with this shot, Miss A directed its composition and asked that it be posted. 😉

Have a wonderful start to the week! We hope you enjoyed this sneak peek into the “Through Their Eyes” posts to come this next year. See you later in the week with one of our favorite go-to dinners.

Really, Kristy, these photos are just excellent! I think that each one is quite interesting and I’m impressed. I can imagine that your year’s sabbatical is going to offer some amazing opportunities for outstanding photojournalism, and each one of you will have the opportunity to grow as photographers! Great idea to get the kids started now. 🙂

Ah, to see the world through the eyes of a child again :p such a great idea for a post! (you’re brave lending your camera mom 😉 ). A big thank you to Miss A and Mr. N for the beautiful captures and for reminding us to take notice.

Good luck with your rehearsals Mr. N — commuting to various activities takes up a huge chunk of family time but it’s worth it and, before you know it, Mr N will be driving! (and that’s a whole other thing to get used to – heeheeh) x.

I really enjoyed the view of Lake Michigan through the eyes of children. The photos through another’s perspective helps me to feel as though I am there. Keep up the good work. I am looking forward to seeing more of it as I check in from time to time. 🙂

Thanks Norma! The kids did a great job. They blew me away. I loved watching them get so into it too. They never once complained about being on a long walk. They were so occupied!

ONce again your post leaves me speechless…

I must say the last photo took my breath away… I find black and white pictures superb and talk to me louder than colorful ones – which is odd, as I am addicted to color…

Wonderful series of photos, you have an amazing family!

Thank you Sally! The kids had so much fun today. It was hard for me to sit back and not photo, but so much fun to watch them go to work. Amazing what I learned and saw today. 🙂 Miss A says thank you and she thought black and white would be good too.
