Power Rankings

At the halfway point of our trip, we decided to compile rankings of our favorite cities, NCAA-style*. We’ve been to 26 different cities, big and small, since we left home in early January and different places have made different marks on each of us. We also included Paris and Barcelona, the cities we saw on our last visit, just because. These rankings are subjective, with the criterion for inclusion based purely on the whims of the voters. We fully expect we’ll change the ordering when we do this again in a few months, even for cities we haven’t returned to. (Full disclosure—we lost the piece of paper we wrote the first set of rankings down on and I know for the second iteration, Miss A changed hers—a lot!)

Will This Change You?
Thursday and Friday of this week marked our halfway point on this journey. At the onset of the adventure we asked each other several questions. One of the questions was, “Will this trip change you?” We asked the same questions, and several new ones, to each other this week while road tripping through Poland. The answers, not surprisingly are changing, as are we. What follows are snippets of our halfway-day reflection.
German Influence (And a new recipe!)
This is it! The last stop on our journey to Poland. While we had hoped to spend more time in Germany, it was not meant to be on this adventure. We did, however, enjoy a brief overnight in the beautiful city of Dresden.
Of Fairy Tales and Family Lore
After leaving Beaune, we were Poland bound. Needing to arrive by the 15th of February, we had to make haste (having dilly dallied in wine country for longer than anticipated). However, I required one more stop to fulfill a deeply rooted curiosity – Strasbourg, France. And it just so happened this stop also took us through France’s Alsace wine region, albeit briefly.
Le Home Away

When we originally mapped out our route through France, we had planned to spend a bit of time touring Dijon, but we never made it. Instead, we stopped in the beautiful little town of Beaune, right in the heart of the Burgundy wine region. We checked into an adorable little hotel, Hotel Le Home, where our host Mathilde greeted us with much enthusiasm and guidance for our visit. I’m glad for her advice, which helped us pack a lot of activity into a little more than one day in town.
