Who doesn’t love a good raffle drawing?! Mr. N loves winning raffle prizes. He recently won a paddle ball and you would have thought he won the lottery. It therefore came as no surprise to us when Mr. N insisted on doing a raffle on our blog after discovering that other bloggers also have various kinds of giveaways.
So tonight we present Mr. N’s Raffle Prize drawing. The process is simple: Leave a comment to this post with a suggestion for an up-coming Stateside cooking adventure. (For example you could say, “Illinois and Chicago Style Pizza.”) Each commenter will be entered in our random drawing and Mr. N will draw the name on Saturday, April 30th at 5 p.m. CST. You can also earn bonus entries by sharing our site with others via Facebook, Twitter, or via your own blog by leaving a comment letting us know you shared the post.
As for the prize, well it’s not a paddle ball or millions of dollars, but since Mr. N has become a big fan of slicing and chopping we found these festive pairing knives with cutting board and a colorful, three-compartment serving dish. Both are perfect for serving some fresh fruit or chips and homemade salsa on a warm summer day!
Now for tonight’s quick, healthy weeknight meal. We made a Prosciutto and Pear Sandwich adapted from Cooking Light magazine.
We placed slices of multi-grain bread in the broiler to brown for 2 minutes. We then removed the bread, flipped the slices over and buttered the bread lightly. We returned the bread to the broiler butter side-up and toasted an additional 2 minutes. Next we tossed arugula and shallots with red wine vinegar, olive oil and a pinch of nutmeg and began to assemble the sandwiches. We placed the arugula and shallots on four slices of bread, butter side-up. Then we added slices of prosciutto, blue cheese and sliced pears before topping with the remaining four slices, butter side-down.
This was a very flavorful sandwich. Dad, Mr. N and Miss A all enjoyed it – especially the blue cheese. I enjoyed it as well, but would like to find an alternate cheese. Blue cheese is a bit to strong for me. Overall this was very easy and healthy meal option that is full of flavor.

Did Rufus just say Bring it ChefMom? LMAO. I am dying of laughter over here. Thank you for your wonderful contest Mr. N :). Hrm, I thought long and hard about my choice since Rufus and everyone else is going hardcore lol.
My theme isn’t so much a state, but a genre: Southern Soul Food. Shrimp and grits, Buttermilk Fried Chicken, or the ever popular red velvet cake (or cupcakes) with cream cheese frosting. This is what I grew up on 🙂 Love the sandwich and I hope you guys enjoy the weekend.

Hey Mr. N! I’m from Ohio originally and now I’m going to graduate school in Arizona. I never realized how many different kinds of hot (as in spicy) peppers there are till I came here. There are so many different levels of heat. So I suggest a crazy salsa challenge. Either different levels of heat or different flavors of salsa (there’s a pretty rad salsa bar at a local Mexican restaurant in Flagstaff…smoked chipotle salsas, mango salsa, blueberry salsa, as well as all your grocery store favs). It is a good excuse to eat a LOOOOOOT of yummy tortilla chips!

My suggestion is going to be a “potluck” dish for Illinois although many states are probably very familiar with this type of dish. Can you guess why I picked “potluck” as my entry for your prize giveaway? Hint: I hope it brings me luck!

Molly was so excited to see Mr. N’s picture and wants us to enter in the raffle. Molly’s favorite state to visit is Minnesota to see her Grandpa, and in order to honor some of my former college roommates, I would like to see a recipe for your best “hot dish.” I had never heard that term until I lived in MN. Apparently any casserole is simply a hot dish. And as a dessert, yours best “bars,” another term I was not familiar with until living in MN. What we might call brownies or rice krispy treats, were always just referred to as simply “bars.”

That’s cool Mr. N won a paddle ball! I never win anything, except once, I won a beautiful basket at a bridal shower. I was so excited you’d think I’d won the lotto, so I understand Mr. N’s excitement.
How about a hamburger cookoff or chili cook off, though chili maybe better in the fall time. I like your suggestion, Chicago style pizza or better yet Chicago style pizza vs. New York pizza. I bet that would be interesting.
BTW, the sandwich look simple and delicious, sounds like a perfect sandwich for those nights that I don’t feel like cooking. 🙂
