We’ve spent the last two weeks in Andalucía. While based in the White Hill Town of Arcos de la Frontera, we’ve travelled to Sevilla, Jerez, Cadiz, Cordoba and numerous small towns scattered throughout the mountains. The following pictures are from Spain’s 4th largest city, Sevilla – as seen through Mr. N’s lens.
Sevilla is a beautiful city with impressive tourist sites – the Cathedral, the Alcazar and the Plaza de España. It’s certainly worth several days – one for the tourist sites and one (or more) to soak up the real essence of this Andalucían city. While we enjoyed the grandeur and history of the Cathedral, the architecture of the Alcazar and the expansive beauty of the Plaza, it wasn’t until we came back and really dug into the barrios that we fell in love (again).

The oranges look beautiful, the blossoms smell amazing – but don’t eat them! These beauties are too bitter for consumption and instead used in perfumes.
El Barrio de Santa Cruz – the former Jewish Quarter – was one of our favorites (especially for tapas crawling!).
An interior shot of the Real Alcazar de Sevilla – which was primarily built in the 1300’s for Spain’s Christian rulers, but reflects a Moorish architecture.
Portions of the Alcazar have been used in filming Game of Thrones!
The Plaza de Espana was built for a World’s Fair and is stunning at sunset.

Mr N has quite an eye! His captures brought back memories of my trip to Sevilla. Really glad he included photos of the Cathedral. The morning I went there, much of it was covered/cordoned off for restoration work. Though still very impressive and beautiful, it could have been so much more. I look forward to Mr N’s next photo essay. 🙂

This gorgeous city is on our list for our fall trip. I’m always amazed at the quality of the composition of Mr. N’s photos. My photos weren’t nearly as sophisticated from my film camera in the dark ages.

Absolutely beautiful! Mr. N has a great eye! I’m fascinated with the oranges being used in perfume. I’ve honestly never heard that before. And before I even read forward I spied that beautiful pool, too! But that cathedral—absolutely incredible! I’m enjoying wonderful vicarious travel. I’m so glad you’re posting along the way!

The architecture is just incredible. I can’t believe the story of Jesus being told in walnut and gold leaf – I wonder what it would cost to do something like that these days. I’ve never heard of an orange being so bitter you can’t eat it! I have my eye on that swimming pool too. It looks like your travel adventures are going really well xx

The closest I’ll get to Sevilla is your lovely pictures especially the orchard of oranges. I imagine that I can smell the flowers when they’re in bloom before they give rise to that bounty.

I love Sevilla. A couple of years ago we went for a quick break during the autumn term. I was sick with a terrible head cold, but soaking up the sun in the gardens of the Alcazar just about cured me. Or maybe it was the sherry…
