Another Tourney Contender

Don’t you just love a good idyllic day – especially in the midst of chaos and stress? The kids and I had one of those days today. It was just a sweet, happy and an all around good day. Nothing particularly of note happened, we didn’t travel anywhere exciting or do anything out of the ordinary. It was just one of those good days that reminds you what it’s all really about.

I had one of those moments in Hawaii too. I went for a run one morning and on the return trip I was running toward the ocean. The view, as you can imagine, was breathtaking. I was soaking it all in when a whale jumped out of the water right in my line of vision. It was incredible and again one of those moments that serves as a gentle reminder that while it’s the little things in life, life is also so much bigger than my daily stresses and hurdles. After that run I sat and stared at the ocean for quite sometime. It was a perfect morning.

My perfect morning was then followed by a trip to our favorite breakfast place where I enjoyed some delicious Hawaiian-style French toast. So what better recipe to include as our next contender for the best French toast, but Hawaiian French Toast?! We first gathered our ingredients which included eggs, milk, vanilla, fresh pineapple and macadamia nuts. So far so good right?!

Our next key ingredient was some King’s Hawaiian Original Hawaiian Sweet Rolls.

First we sliced the rolls in half.

Then Miss A whisked together the eggs, milk and vanilla.

She also showed off her post-gymnastics muscles. Welcome to the gun show! 😉

After Miss A’s expert job of whisking, we dipped the buns and Mr. N helped to add them to a butter coated skillet.

We cooked the French toast for about two to three minutes per side, until they were nice and golden brown.

We then served our breakfast right away and topped the French toast with fresh pineapple and macadamia nuts.

The Hawaiian-style French toast was a hit with all four of us. The pineapple brought such a fresh sweetness to the breakfast and the macadamia nuts brought just the right amount of salt and crunch.

Add to that deliciousness a touch of syrup and you have a pretty darn good French toast.

So will this Hawaiian French toast make it to the finals next March? Only time will tell. Until then, you can trust that this is a delicious and fresh French toast recipe. It scored 3 spoons all-around.

And as for taking advantage of those little moments, well, for the next short while we’re going to drop back to two posts a week. Sometimes it takes a vacation to tell us to slow down a bit, other times it’s just two smiling little faces.

Not to worry, we’ll still be touring our international and stateside destinations and will undoubtedly return to our three times a week schedule in no time, but until we roll through this busy spring season, we’ll see you twice a week. Enjoy those little moments – we know we will. 🙂

I absolutely loved the article and the pictures! I can’t get any hawaiian bread where I live, so I just substituted with really cheap mini croissants, and it turned out like heaven! Thank you!

Great Gun Show!! And Perfect 10/10 for that little sweet smile from Mr. N! I’m on your page… I’ve dropped down to feeling pressured to post every other day.. just too much going on in “real life” to do it all… I think that’s how I got sick. Much more fun to make Hawaiian French Toast and run along the ocean!!

Kristy, this is absolutely to die for!! OMG what a great idea to use the Kings Hawaiin Bread. My son loves this bread! I’ll need to take an extra long bike ride, followed by a long toning session after I eat this, but it will be soooo worth it!! I’d vote for this french toast as the winner and I’ve not yet seen them all!!

Definitely. I absolutely love blogging and we all love cooking and eating our adventures, so it was tough to decide on two days a week. Sometimes you just have to step back though or things just get too overwhelming. I’m sure we’ll be back when things settle down though. 🙂

Oooo I can imagine how delicious the pineapple must have tasted here! I’ve never eaten a French toast like this, but it sure sounds incredible. I’m sure the macadamia nuts provided a nice textural contrast. Miss A’s guns put mine to shame. 😉

I’m not familiar with the gun show but I’m loving those post gymnastics muscles 😉 Your Hawaiian French toast look so yummy – gorgeous browning on the bread. I especially like the macadamia and your moments of peace and reflection about the little things… I’m with you sister! (just sneaking a few web moments in the chalet… back to nature’s abundance in a moment ;-)) xo.

Your reflecting on your beach run moment is inspiring. Things have been a little crazy lately, but I’m hoping to enjoy life’s simple pleasures soon. We loved your Bermuda French Toast — now we’re going to have to go Hawaiian. Given the way the girls love pineapple, this is a guaranteed winner. Hope that feeling has lasted throughout the day.

I hear ya on the craziness lately. I don’t know what it is, but so far this year has been off to a very busy start. That’s why these little moments are so priceless right now. 😉 So glad you enjoyed the Bermuda French toast. It’s still our favorite.

Hi Kristy, I’m intrigued by the “sweet rolls” – are they a little like brioche? I love the look of this french toast – the pineapple looks like a great addition, and loving the little chunks of macadamia sprinkled around too… and that big puddle of syrup… oh yeah! 🙂

Lovely photos as always – such cute beach photos… I’m so jealous. Of course, Hawaii is probably a bit different but last time I went to a beach in France I saw a dead bird and a load of trash washed up on the shore :p

Oh my! That doesn’t sound like a good beach experience. It actually sounds about like the beach here in Chicago. Don’t get me wrong, I love our lakeshore and the beach and it’s great for a day excursion. That said, I’m not about to get in that water. As for the sweet rolls, I’m going to have to try brioche to make a comparison. I believe that I’ve had it before, but not recent enough that I can remember. The Hawaiian rolls are definitely a sweet type roll though. Very soft too. Delicious! 🙂

I was actually planning to use regular white bread, but saw the package of rolls at Costco and it hit me. Stepping back to breathe is so much easier said than done, but definitely needed. 😉

Would it be terribly repetitive to say I loved this post? I am reading it laying in bed, getting ready to sleep, and the image of some of our runs in Hawaii is now with me…. feels great!

Sooooo, is Miss A. turning into a P90Xer? :-). Those ARE some guns!

and Mr N is changing… he s got a grwn up boy look now, very cool!

Beautiful photos all around… enjoy your special moments!

LOL! Thank you Sally. Those are some of the best runs aren’t they! Nothing quite compares. As for Miss A – she probably is a future P90Xer! She is all muscle this little one. You should see her in her little leotard for gymnastics. It just amazes me. 🙂 And yes, Mr. N has changed as of late. It’s so wild to see – bittersweet too. 😉

I was about to make the same comment. Mr N is really blooming. I totally agree on the bittersweet part. My Jana is 7 and a half and as much as it is a joy to watch her grow, it scares me!
You want them to grow and become independent yet the thought of them becoming young adults with their own lives and passions and dreams that you are only a little part of is indeed bittersweet
        Sorry for ranting Kristy.
